A year after its first unveiling, the NintendoDS console is
beginning to live up to the hype. With its totally unique features
and high-end graphics, Nintendo have once again made a play for
front-runner in the handheld console market and with than four
million units sold worldwide within six months of the systems
worldwide debut, no-one is questioning their position.
The NintendoDS’ E3 2005 began with a bang. Online gaming
is the hot topic, with Nintendo abandoning their previous stance of
general online-avoidance and pelting full-throttle into the Wi-Fi
arena. Utilising wireless LAN out-of-the-box the NintendoDS broke
some boundaries, and now Nintendo are intent on showing us exactly
how they think internet-gaming should be done – for free.
With Nintendo expecting a 90% user uptake of the service through
both home Wi-Fi set-ups and public servers, they’ve pushed the
boat out at E3. Mario KartDS and Animal CrossingDS both
make an appearance, and both push the limits of what gamers were
expecting.
But it’s not just about the online-arena. A huge amount of
exclusive, innovative titles are on display including; Viewtiful
JoeDS, Advance Wars: Dual Strike, Electroplankton, Pac
N’ Roll, NintenDOGS and the hotly anticipated Metroid
Prime: Hunters. There’s more than enough to excite even the
most hardened gamer, and has reduced many (including my colleagues)
to fits of screaming and hysterics.
With so many titles on show, it’s been hard work to bring
you coverage of all the bouts of genius that are playable, but
I’d be lying if I told you it was a chore… check out the links
below for further in-depth looks on the fantastic new NintendoDS
line-up - direct from E3 2005.
