Sonic Rush for the NintendoDS is Sonic gaming
at its best. It came as little surprise to me that it won the award
for ‘Best NintendoDS game’ at the Electronic Entertainment Expo
(E3). Although it doesn’t use the touch screen for movement at
all, having another screen present helps add that extra bit of
depth to what is already a very good game.
In the usual Sonic tradition, the object of the game
is to get from one end of the stage to the other, collecting as
many rings as you can, taking whichever route you feel is right.
With the two screens you can easily see above and below you as Sonic
changes which screen he appears in and it is
clear
to see there are many available routes to take, even if they are
not immediately accessible to you.
You move very quickly through the levels, the only downside
being that you have to be very quick with your attacks on enemies
as you only have an extremely short amount of time before you run
into them. But that is all part of the fast-paced fun.
This really does epitomise what Sonic is about, there
is no slowing down with this, there are blocks you hit which make
you spring from one part of the level and when I played don’t
think I took exactly the same route twice. It is very fast-paced,
hectic gaming and, even in its current state, this should be a big
hit when finally released onto our shores.
