Full Auto 2: Battlelines

SEGA’s new-found love of westernised titles doesn’t end with their Xbox360 release schedule – Full Auto 2: Battlelines appears as a PlayStation2 exclusive touted to be available at launch.Electronic Theatre Image

The E3 Preview Code was limited to an arena-based Deathmatch in which four-players honed their destructive skills through a selection of six playable vehicles. Weapons are now independently selectable – removing one of the Xbox360’s biggest foibles – but in the demo were limited to those available in the first title. Slight modifications have been made mainly to the first titles best weapon: the Machine Gun, which now has an adjustable rate of fire dependant on the precision press of the PlayStation3’s enhanced Analogue L2 Trigger. Rapid fire will cause the weapon to overheat quicker, whilst Mines and Rockets make a return to the fray with seemingly little modification.

A minor graphical improvement over the title’s predecessor and an enhanced Physics Engine was really all that was notable in a title seemingly over-confident in the Electronic Theatre Imagepraise the series has received thus far, although an enhanced Single-Player and totally destructible environments are promised. Whether these minor improvements will pull fans away from the first Full Auto is debateable – as most likely the updates will appear as downloadable packages on the Xbox360 Marketplace – however as a taste of something different at the launch of the PlayStation3, Full Auto 2: Battlelines is likely to have much the same impact as its predecessor.
