An unusual
presentation for the PlayStation3 came in the form of Heavy Rain:
The Casting. Portraying itself as an actor’s audition, the title
is promised to be realised as a full game come the Launch Day of the
PlayStation3.
A Tech-Demo at the greatest-end of
the spectrum, the title was sparingly given only four buttons of
control: L1 and L2 scrolled through a paradigm of rendering-effects,
whilst R1 and R2 supposedly adjusted perspective – but in
actual effect seemed to do very little.
While the animation was fluid and
some of the special effects were simply astonishing – namely the
tear-effects – the basic presentation of human-life was bland and
easily miss-judged by on-lookers. Skin blemishes and cloth textures
were all of an incredibly high-standard, but our featured
leading-lady was simply removed from reality too-far to be
believable. Attempting to attain a level of reality as-in Final
Fantasy: The Spirits Within is commendable, but ultimately, was
also the demo’s undoing. |
