Capcom’s Xbox360 Line-Up is enviable.
Both Dead Rising and
Lost Planet: Extreme Conditions
show a great deal of ingenuity in the Next-Generation race and,
Dead Rising is particular is likely to appeal to a fantastically
wide-demographic of gamers.
Dead Rising is set in
Willamette Mall. Playing as a Photographer flown by helicopter into
the mall for seemingly little reason other than grabbing the
headlines, you are ordered with the task of surviving for
seventy-two hours before being air-lifted out with any survivors you
manage to find. The game begins as you are flown into the mall and
given the opportunity to try out your photography skills; the more
zombies or action you capture in each shot, the more points you are
accredited with – which will be totalled at the end of the game and
no doubt will have Achievements based on your score.
The mall is entirely Free-Roaming and
Capcom promise there will be many different ways to encounter each
objective; switches may be located to open iron-gates blocking a
store entrance, but a fire extinguisher and a large amount of force
may do the job just as well. The weapons system is one of the titles
big features and having the ability to use practically any movable
object in the mall provides for some interesting play to say the
least. Unfortunately, the Collision Detection with many of these
objects isn’t as accurate as it could be, and so
many may pose a
little more awkward in use then they realistically should – but this
doesn’t detract from the fact that bashing several zombies with a
park bench is insurmountable fun.
With a selection of ten vehicles and
more than twenty unlockable characters adding to the replay value,
Dead Rising is certainly looking to be a treat for Xbox360
owners come summer. The zombie repetition has been kept to a minimum
and the graphical presentation is pleasing – offering visuals
slightly more impressive than The Outfit with far more
happening on-screen at any one point. Clearly inspired by the
Evil Dead series, Dead Rising is set to put the
PlayStation2’s
Evil Dead: Regeneration in its place. |
