Ready for another new game involving everybody’s
favourite blue hedgehog? Sure you are. Veteran gamers will know
Sonic The Hedgehog games are, unfortunately a notoriously hit-and-miss affair,
but most people agree that Sonic plays best when he’s running really
fast, something SEGA have promised for the next Sonic The
Hedgehog title. So, how
is the Next-Generation Sonic The Hedgehog shaping-up for release on
Xbox360 this Christmas?
This time around Sonic is joined by the gun
toting anti-hero Shadow and new character Silver, the psychic
hedgehog, although only Sonic and Silver are playable in this years
E3 Preview Code. Once again, Sonic is in three dimensions and yes, he is
incredibly fast; so fast in fact that on first play you wonder to
yourself how you are going to get him round all of the mad twists
and turns of the demonstration’s Level. He also attacks in the
traditional manner, jumping on enemies heads, as well as having
homing attack useful for taking
out multiple enemies although excessive use of this usually results
in Sonic falling of one the games many cliffs. Silver plays quite
differently to Sonic, instead of the tradition head stomping attacks
he can lift nearby objects and throw them at enemies. At one point
Silver is attacked by a Mech sporting multiple Rocket Launchers; in
order to defeat it the player must hold the projectiles using
Silver's Telekinetic Powers, before hurling them back toward the foe.
Although Shadow wasn’t playable, it’s a fairly safe bet that he has
a really big gun.
Sonic and Co are looking decidedly good on the
Xbox360 and, in the extended video-footage, some of the Boss enemies are especially intimidating in
their design. There is also almost always a load of action on-screen.
This, t ogether with the insane speeds Sonic is capable of, mean that
gamers are in for a visual feast when Sonic The Hedgehog finally
launches in the Winter - on both Xbox360 and PlayStation3. However, at the moment,
Sonic The Hedgehog
is clearly not finished - despite SEGA's insistance it's almost
ready for launch. The controls are still a little
temperamental, the Character Models can pass
through walls and there are occasional Frame-Rate problems, but if
SEGA can iron-out these bugs by launch, Sonic fans are in for a
incredible ride. |
