Lost
Planet: Extreme Conditions is shaping-up to be one of the
Xbox360’s hottest releases of the year. Looking likely to be one
of the most graphically beautiful games ever made on Microsoft’s
flourishing Next-Generation system. Most Xbox360 owners will be
looking forward to this release, but will it make a great addition
to their collection?
The
games starts off with you waking-up on a planet that just seems to
be in an ice-age, it’s not revealed just how you got there until
later in the game. The controls are relatively simple and easy to
get to grips with.
The
game flows really smoothly and the snow blizzard looks amazingly
clear and realistic, also the sun creates an amazing visual effect
on-screen. Although the bug Character Models don’t seem to be of
such a high standard as the scenery, which is a shame, they are by
no means poor, and the enemies are animated in an exemplary fashion.
The title offers itself as a Third-Person Shooter with a quick-pace,
featuring a variety of locals and enemies. There is a wide-range of
weapons for you to play with, with ay two in your arsenal at any
point. The Mech Unit add-ons are interchangeable whenever you want:
you go can even take them all off the Mech Unit that you can get
into. The fact that you can change your Mech Unit weapons is a
rather ingenious idea as it adds even more depth to an already
thought-provoking game, also the different gravity levels and the
heat-element on the different Missions make the game seem even more
realistic, these inventive features draw you in, closing the gap
between avatar and player in simple and understated ways that Metal
Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater could only dream of.
There
was only one enemy found whilst in the Preview Code – a little
disappointing after the grandeur of the E3 Preview Build. The bugs
on the Level are constantly borne of a Spawn Point – a crater in
the ground, eventually disposed of with rapid-fire and grenades.
After you have killed the enemies they drop Heat Energy which you
need in-order to survive; if your Heat Level, indicated by a Meter
on the bottom-left of the screen, falls too low you’ll die of
hypothermia. Your Heat Level falls greatly when you are outside,
more than when you are inside, which really shows that Capcom have
thought about what they were doing with this release. With Dead
Rising just around the corner and looking increasingly
promising, and now Lost Planet: Extreme Conditions,
Capcom’s Xbox360 future is looking to some-up all roses.
