Consumer events are usually fairly drab affairs for gaming
journalists, most titles are either released or very close to
release and have generally been seen and played before.
At first
glance Microsoft’s Xbox360 event at the Bullring in Birmingham
seemed all too similar, however, closer inspection revealed several
games not played by the
Electronic Articles team and a
handful of titles heavily tweaked since previous demonstrations.
Sonic The Hedgehog has improved somewhat since the buggy
E3
demonstration back in May, and featured alongside the likes of
Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Las Vegas, Superman Returns,
Viva
Piñata and Eragon. Releases such as Need For Speed:
Carbon,
Pro Evolution Soccer 6, FIFA 07, LEGO Star Wars II:
The Original Trilogy and Street Fighter II’: Hyper Fighting
also featured, but it was the centrepiece of the event the was
the real catch, the by-appointment-only, playable demonstration of
the Xbox360 biggest title yet; Gears Of War.
Whilst getting some hands on time with
Gears Of War was top
priority for the Electronic Articles team, the inclusion of a
playable Viva Piñata and Superman: Returns came as a
pleasant surprise. Although time was limited, the team managed to
grab some quality play time on a variety of games, and, as always,
are bringing it to you here at Electronic Articles. Go ahead,
