Hot-on-the-heels of this week’s delay for the PlayStation3
in
Europe
, a leak from SONY Computer Entertainment of America has raised a
few eyebrows. Late last night, an image surfaced on the internet –
and, from an undisclosed location, arrived in the Electronic
Articles inbox – displaying the current frontrunner for
design of the PlayStation3 Box Art and, in specific, the latest in
the Untold
Legends series, Untold Legends: Dark Kingdom.
Now, it’s been common knowledge for a while that the
PlayStation3 games will come packaged as Blu-Ray Discs, as opposed
to the DVD cases the Current-Generation has taken as uniformity. The
exact dimensions of the European Blu-Ray case haven’t been
confirmed, but there are plenty of rumours currently floating around
the internet. The image that has been released is purely that of the
design of the artwork, not the case, and so our talented Electronic
Theatre design team have created a second image for you,
detailing the placement on the artwork on the new Blu-Ray case
design.
The Box Art design details a few changes for the PlayStation
franchise. Firstly, it must be noted that the images are of the US
design, and so that which comes to Europe is likely to be
significantly different. The first thing that people familiar with
PlayStation Box Art will notice is that the PlayStation logo is
embossed on a white background in a similar feature to the PSP
packaging, and opposed to that of the PlayStation and PlayStation2
art in which the logo was positioned on a black background.
Along the left side of the case, you’ll notice that the
bold system branding is now placed. Whilst the PlayStation received
a footer, and the PlayStation2 presented the Current-Generation
standard of a format header, the PlayStation3 design will instead
see the logo profile the central image. The usual array of publisher
and age classification blips mark the bottom corners, and,
obviously, will be the biggest change for release in
Europe
.
At the time of going to press, there is currently no official
announcement concerning the Box Art design, nor any single element
of it. With SONY refusing to comment, it’s likely that the public
will draw their on conclusions.
