Electronic Theatre Special: Sales Chart

Week Ending 22nd December, 2006.

Even though it seems an age since their releases, the big three, Need For Speed: Carbon, FIFA 07 and Pro Evolution Soccer 6 still dominate the Sales Charts, coming in at one, two and three respectively. In fact, despite the release of a new console and Electronic Theatre Imagea platform-wide rise in game sales due to Christmas, the top six is still pretty much the same as it has been for the last month or so. Following the Street Racing and Football giants are Call Of Duty 3, The Sims 2: Pets and WWE: SmackDown! Vs. Raw 2007 at four, five and six. The multi-format film licensed Happy Feet represents the first major change, this week rising one to seven. The title that refuses to die, Dr. Kawashima’s Brain Training: How Old Is Your Brain?, returns to the Top 10 once again, rising three to claim the respectable eighth spot. The ultra-gory success story Gears Of War remains within the Top 10 this week, the proven system-shifter probably buoyed, along with Project Gotham Racing 3, by robust Xbox360 sales this Christmas. Another chart favourite, LEGO Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy rounds out the Top 10.

The teens have no new releases, mostly due to the dearth of new, quality titles, but a few surprises. Despite Wii being damn near-impossible to find and the GameCube as popular in the UK as the plague, the superb The Legend Of Zelda: Twilight Princess rises one place this week to eleven. The casual gamer’s new baby Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?: Party Edition climbs an impressive seven to fourteen, marking a genius move by Eidos to allow Buzz! Buzzers to be used. Without these titles, there is no big news here, aside from the fact that people will probably be buying Mario and Grand Theft Auto games well into the Next-Generation.
