As
Christmas is behind us and we move into 2006 it is time for eyes to
turn to the impending Easter Line-Up. SONY had a mixed 2005, with
new life breathed into the PlayStation2 - which many saw as on its
last legs - by titles such as the brutal Tekken 5 and the
awe-inspiring God Of War,
but also saw a disappointing Christmas with lack-lustre sales of
some of their big name software releases. SONY have now seemed to
set their sights on stabilising their position in the European
market. The Easter Line-Up which SONY are publishing for the
PlayStation2 and the PlayStation Portable looks to do just that. But
the question is will the major titles be able to do this on their
own, or will SONY be relying on the lesser titles carving a space in
gamer’s Easter purchase plans. Of course SONY also have
Third-Party releases to aid their cause.
The towering monolith dominating the otherwise barren plain
of the early releases is the long awaited Shadow
Of The Colossus for the PlayStation2, the successor to the
classic PlayStation adventure about to benefit from a Re-Launch, ICO.
Backing it up are titles such as 24:
The Game, Urban Reign
and Ape Escape. Whilst the PSP line-up features the latest incarnation
of the Lemmings series,
giving everybody a chance to relive sixteen-years of small green
haired creatures with a death-wish.
SONY are also publishing differing versions of Ape Escape
on both the formats. Whilst the ever popular SOCOM series
sees a return on the PlayStation2. With a fairly wide line up, could
it be that SONY can head towards the PlayStation3 with some renewed
strength.
