Electronic Theatre Special Report: Wii Box Art Revealed

Following our revelation of the PlayStation3 Box Art at the beginning of the month, Electronic Articles is proud to continue the trend with new Box Art received by us this very morning. UBi Soft have broken the silence by revealing to us the design of Red Steel’s packaging.

While there’s been no confirmation of how Wii software will be packaged, it’s pretty safe to assume titles will arrive in standard DVD packaging; much like the Xbox360 has stuck to this Current-Generation tradition.

The Wii logo remains prominently at the top of the design, while the publisher and age classification logos remain traditionally in the bottom-left and bottom-right corners respectively. The biggest question hanging over the validity of this Box Art being the final design is that of Nintendo’s Original Seal Of Quality. Having appeared on every authorised release on every console since the release of the NES, and also on all official merchandise, it’s highly likely that Nintendo will continue to use the Seal, if only to honour the Nintendo traditionalists. However, it does remain possible that the Seal will now only appear on the back artwork, as opposed to the front cover as in previous generations.

At the time of going to press, there was no official comment from Nintendo regarding this design, the placement of their Seal nor whether it’s currently in print. With this clearly being the US packaging design – denoted by the inclusion of the ESRB rating as opposed to either PEGI or BBFC Classification – it can only be a matter of time before we discover the exact print of the UK release.
