Electronic Theatre Report: NintendoDS; Two Years Old, Three Million Sold.

Figures released courtesy of the UK’s leading independent music, video and software performance and sales tracking company, Chart-Track, show Nintendo’s NintendoDS Electronic Theatre Imageand NintendoDS Lite handheld consoles are now being enjoyed by over three million people in the UK. Reinforcing it’s position as the UK market leading hardware format of any kind for 2006, NintendoDS has already established itself as the UK market leading hardware format again so far in 2007.

The huge success of Nintendo’s range of Touch! Generations games in the UK has helped to secure Nintendo¹s lead in the UK handheld market, combined weekly sales of NintendoDS and NintendoDS Lite in the UK alone account for 68% of the handheld console market so far in 2007.

Commenting on the success of NintendoDS in the UK, David Yarnton, General Manager, Nintendo UK said: “It’s a great testament to the strength of the DS hardware and software range available, that just as NintendoDS has passed its second birthday here in the UK, it reaches such a landmark sales figure. With many more Touch! Generations games launching in 2007, NintendoDS and Wii will continue to be the main driving forces behind the expansion of the videogame market this year.”

Nintendo’s Touch! Generations range, a selection of innovative software titles designed to appeal to people of all ages and gaming experience, even those who may have never even played before and features a raft of already hugely successful titles including Dr. Kawashima’s Brain Training: How Old Is Your Brain?, Big Brain Academy, 42 All-Time Classics, the Nintendogs series, Electroplankton, Sudoku Master, Actionloop and Tetris DS.
