E3 2008:

PLAYSTATION3: The Agency

One of the PLAYSTATION3’s most promising exclusive titles would be that of SONY’s Massively Multi-Player Online Espionage title, The Agency. With a persistent Electronic Theatre Imageworld and an inviting Character Class dynamic, Electronic Theatre had it’s eyes firmly peeled for any new information on the game.

Unfortunately, all that was available was a brief demonstration of the title’s Character Creation feature and a single Mission. A handful of new information, however, was uncovered. Firstly, the title will feature three types of Mission, based on the length of time available for play. Quick Missions will feature around ten-to-fifteen minutes gameplay, basic Missions coming in at twenty-to-thirty, and the larger scale missions lasting in the region of an hour. SONY Online Entertainment will apparently be aiming for bi-weekly updates for both the PLAYSTATION3 and PC release, which are set to include further Missions and new locations, amongst others.

Of the three Character Classes available – Stealth, Combat and Support – the Stealth Class will feature special Alias Missions, which incorporate sneaking into enemy territory with unique game mechanics. It’s assumed at this stage that each Character Class will have their own specific Mission type, but not yet confirmed. The ability to switch Character Classes at will, however, has been included.

Little more, aside form the Press Releases, is known about The Agency at present, including an expected release date or that all-important matter of whether or not a Subscription Fee will be required, and if so, exactly how much it will cost.
