SONY’s PlayStation Portable system launched in 2006 in
Europe – after many delays – and has since maintained a more than
adequate sell-through rate. However, a
lack of “must have” titles
and being outshined at every corner but a certain Nintendo handheld
system have lead many to believe that the PlayStation Portable –
despite reportedly having now sold in excess of thirty-million units
worldwide – is already dead. Unfortunately, E3 2008 was not the show
to convince the naysayers otherwise.
Reinforcing information about the ability to link to the
PLAYSTATION3, talks about sales rate, an extremely brief software
montage Reel comprised mainly of sequels and ending with the
announcement that Resistance: Retribution is your biggest
game – due out next year – does not inspire confidence.
However, whatever the current state of the PlayStation
Portable’s market, there’s no denying that of that brief software
line-up, more than half arguably look promising – a feat that no
other system at the show this year could claim. With BUZZ!
Making its first appearance, Resistance arriving on
PlayStation Portable next year and
sequels to both LocoRoco
and Patapon promised, the console’s fans will already know
what they’ve got in-store, and already know that it’s the quality,
as opposed to the quantity, that counts. |
