E3 2008:

PlayStation Portable: LocoRoco 2

Announced a few days before E3 this year (although unveiled by Electronic Theatre a few days before that), LocoRoco 2 wasn’t too big a surprise, but a pleasant one regardless. Electronic Theatre ImageUnlike Patapon 2, however, LocoRoco 2’s E3 showing was quite retrained. In-fact, the title itself didn’t even appear at the show, although a series of screenshots were released and, of course, Electronic Theatre managed to grab a handful of new details.

The game is a direct sequel to the original PlayStation Portable release, with the PLAYSTATION3 outing acting as an “offshoot”, according to the game’s designer Tsutomu Kouno. Players can expect much of the same, with the L and R Triggers, along with the Circle Button, controlling all the action, but with detailed refinement and new additions to the formula – such as the ability to swim. Mini-Games will be dotted throughout the main game’s Stages and it has been reported that some of these will also become available as Multi-Player Challenges.

LocoRoco 2 is still quite early in development, and while original reports suggested LocoRoco 2 was further along in it’s development cycle than Patapon 2, this is no longer believed to be the case. LocoRoco 2 isn’t expected until early 2009, and so PlayStation Portable players should keep their ear to the ground – news will be drip-fed from this one.
