Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts is the long-awaited
third title in a trilogy that began on the Nintendo64. Originally
unveiled with a trailer showing no gameplay at E3 2006,
snippets
of information have been continuously forthcoming since. While the
vehicular gameplay and return of many fan-favourite characters have
been revealed, a connection with how the game actually plays
has been sorely missing, until now.
E3 2008 see RARE’s latest attempt to reclaim it’s glory
days come into the light and show strength is a genre that the
Xbox360 is sorely lacking; traditional Platform games.
The
E3 2008 Trailer – now available over at
Electronic
Assets – demonstrates a little of how the story may come
together, as well as showing some of the gameplay elements only
available to the press before. The series traditions of collecting
Notes within Levels, and Jiggys as currency for new ones continues,
with Platform-based puzzles having to be completed for each. One of
the Levels demonstrated at the show unveiled a huge arena for
gameplay with puzzles comprising of both on-foot and vehicle
orientated objectives.
The vehicle construction has also now been shown, and it’s deviously
simple. Collecting and being rewarded with new modular items allows
the player to simply “click” together vehicle parts with varying
effect. The scope of creativity available is wonderful and, if all
goes according to plan, the game shall arrive with the ability to
trade creations online.
Another shock announcement was the arrival of the original
Nintendo64 Banjo-Kazooie on XboxLIVE! Arcade. While
originally published by Nintendo, the title remains the Intellectual
Property of RARE, and so an agreement between these companies and
Microsoft has obviously been reached, providing hope for an update
of the Nintendo64’s sequel, Banjo-Tooie, and that an
agreement could be reached with Activision for the same to happen
with RARE’s GoldenEye 007. |
