The Postal series has gained a reputation of
delivering the most distasteful. Now entering its third chapter and
being no stranger to controversy, fans of the series can expect much
of the same animal-munitions, playing with fire and rebelling
against basic morality. But would you want anything else?
The build playable at this year’s E3 was very
early in production. The majority of time spent with the title
revolved around general carnage in the town of Catharsis – already
establishing the title’s social commentary and political satire
appendages. Armed with a Pistol, Machine Gun, M16 and the
traditional can of gasoline, the player was also aided by a couple
of furry-friends. A Badger would rip enemies in half when up-close,
and a Robotic Monkey which was guided to attack via a laser-pen –
however, in this build, the Artificial Intelligence of the Robotic
Monkey was somewhat off target, and would often find it getting a
little lost. It was noted that a dog that would act similarly was
also intended for the final build.
The Mission demonstrated was that seen previously in
video footage. Tackling the job of Mop Boy at a Porn Shop, the
player was tasked with hoovering-up “used rags” before empting them
in a dumpster or, in a more comedic fashion, shooting back at the
present clients. Towards the end of the Mission, a brigade of locals
arrived to put an end to things, at which point the player is asked
to begin “removing” the middle-aged mafia from the store front.
Following the
announcement earlier this month that The Village People’s Randy
Jones will appear in the game, Running With Scissors intend on
announcing a new celebrity appearance every month until the game’s
launch next summer. We’ll keep you up-to-date as soon as we hear. |
