E3 2008:

Xbox360: Viva Piñata: Trouble in Paradise

The sequel to RARE’s Viva Piñata is on it’s way to the Xbox360, and should be landing in Europe on September 5th, 2008. Given that such a specific release date has been Electronic Theatre Imagegranted, and is rapidly approaching, those expecting an almost complete build of Viva Piñata: Trouble in Paradise at this year’s E3 show would have been right.

The show floor demo featured just about every in-game item and most of the new Piñatas featured in the title – totalling more than thirty new additions. This, obviously, meant that things were quite chaotic before a player even took control. The objective of the game is to create an inviting garden in which a variety of Piñatas will settle. Each species of Piñata have their own preferences; likes and dislikes, preferred foods and toys and each have their own rival species. Obviously, the more species a player encourages into their garden, the more of a complicated juggling act the game becomes.

A revision to the basic gameplay sees the player allowed to venture a short distance outside the edge of the garden. Certain Piñata may be interested in your garden, yet one or two criteria may not be met, and so the creature won’t actually cross the boundary line. Moving outside allows you view the details of these Piñata, and provide what else may be necessary. A Ban Board has also been added: many species of Piñata won’t get along, and so players can now ban certain species so their hard work doesn’t get disrupted by an unruly visitor.

There’s plenty of other new additions – not least a true two-player Co-Operative Mode (touted to support up to four-players online) and two new varieties of garden. However, with the release date rapidly approaching and so many other games on show, Electronic Theatre thought it best to leave any further revelations until our In-depth Review, coming very soon.
