Harmonix and MTV Games has announced that a four pack of songs from American punk rockers X, three singles, including a free track, from British garage rockers Little Fish, as well as singles from Ace Frehley, Carrie Underwood and OneRepublic will be added next week to the Rock Band Music Store of downloadable content (DLC) for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Wii.

            Last night, the GAME British Academy Video Games Awards ceremony took place in London, with a number of shocking results. While few would argue that Batman: Arkham Asylum found itself up against some tough competition for the coveted Game of the Year award, the fact that Rocksteady Studios walked away with the award will certainly be a boon to UK videogame development. However, another winner is now going to be a benefit to the UK’s gaming public, as the UK’s largest high street videogames retailer has announced a celebratory promotion.

THQ Inc. has today announced the general availability of Metro 2033, promising a landmark title in the First-Person Shooter (FPS) genre. Based on a novel by the Russian author Dmitry Glukhovsky, Metro 2033 combines classic FPS action with elements of survival horror and intelligent plot and character development not seen before in gaming, to create a true genre original.             As one of the most anticipated releases on the current-generation of home videogames consoles this year, last week’s launch of Final Fantasy XIII was unsurprisingly met with great commercial success. Available across western territories on both Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, Square Enix’s latest release in the bloodline of the series which had earned them a reputation for delivering uncompromising Role-Playing Game (RPG) experiences was welcomed with open arms by owners of both systems. However, in the UK, the ongoing battle for format supremacy has surely taken Final Fantasy XIII as a casualty.

Crytek GmbH (“Crytek”) and Xaviant LLC have announced their first licensee agreement. The US developer will use CryENGINE 3 for its next game, Lichdom. The single-player action story with Role-Playing Game (RPG) elements will be released for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC, though no launch date has yet been revealed.

            While the Yakuza series is playing catch-up in North America and Europe, with Yakuza 3 having finally arrived on European shelves last Friday, 12th March 2010, it appears that the demand for the series in the east shows no sign of slowly down. The latest title in the series, Yakuza 4, is set to arrive on Japanese store shelves this week, but within that anticipation it appears SEGA have decided they have the perfect opportunity to tease the next instalment in the series.

            Following yesterday’s revelation that Square Enix’s Final Fantasy XIII had unsurprisingly taken the top spot in the UK’s multi-format sales charts after only one week of availability, new figures have been released today offering a breakdown of the units sold on each format. Originally intended as a PlayStation 3 exclusive, Final Fantasy XIII was confirmed to be receiving both an Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 release in western territories at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in 2008, and finally debuted on both formats in the UK on 9th March, 2010.
