The newly revealed Tecmo Koei Europe yesterday held their first retail and media event within the UK. Not only delivering the official confirmation of the completion of the merger, representatives from Team Ninja were on-hand to offer a few choice words, and the world’s first hands-on play session, for the forthcoming Ninja Gaiden Σ II.

The event began with a presentation highlighting the completion of the merger and the official opening of Tecmo Koei Europe. With KOEI boss Kenji Matsubara in attendance, the new publisher was described as a “new force in games publishing” that plans for “new and vigorous growth in Europe”. The first title to be published by the new company will of course be Ninja Gaiden Σ II.

An introduction to the PLAYSTATION 3 exclusiveElectronic Theatre Image release and a Q&A session took place with Team Ninja’s Mr. Hayashi, producer of Ninja Gaiden Σ II, highlighting many aspects unique to the game. Of primary not to many was the “toned down” nature of the game’s violence; while enemies can be hacked into pieces in the expected fashion, there’s no longer gallons of blood gushing from the severed appendage. The perhaps more important revelations were that of the four playable characters set to be included and the online two-player Co-Operative Mode, complete with multiple difficulty settings and online Leaderboards.

Next on the agenda came the opportunity to get hands-on with the game, as well as the PlayStation Portable version of Warriors Orochi 2, which Electronic Theatre will of course deliver you reports on very soon. In addition, however, was a demo reel containing a series of trailers for forthcoming releases from the newly formed TECMO KOEI Europe, including Undead Knights, Trinity: Souls of Zill O’ll and the seemingly renamedElectronic Theatre Image Quantum. Formerly known as Quantum Theory, all associated artwork simply know states the solitary word, and when discussed with a PR representative was referred to only as “Quantum”.

The event was well organised and, as intended to mark a brand new start for Tecmo Koei Europe, certainly presented a generous image. Electronic Theatre will bring you more details from everything presented at the show over the next few days.

I really enjoyed the ones on the XBOX (even if bosses were annoying), this looks like it could be a fantastic game, shame about the gore tho, you can never have enough gore.....or why don't they release a gory and non-gory version....for hardcore adult gamers and hardcore children?
