Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) has this morning released details of the official retail bundle that will be available to European consumers on September 1st, 2009, with the launch of the recently revealed PlayStation 3. A substantial redesign, the new PlayStation 3 will be available at a Recommended Retail Price (RRP) of £249.99.
The new PlayStation 3 has seen a revision of the system’s internal components, including improvements to the main semiconductors, power supply and cooling mechanism. The new model continues to offer functions of the current models such as the ability to enjoy High-Definition Blu-ray disc movies and games as well as various content and services downloadable through the PlayStation Network. Storage capacity has increased from the latest model of the PLAYSTATION 3, which featured an 80GB hard-disk drive (HDD), to 120GB with the ability to store more games, music, photos, videos as well as various content and services available through PlayStation Network.
Despite reports of Japanese consumers receiving a copy of Namco Bandai’s latest Gundam release, Gundam Senki, within their console bundle, European gamers will not be receiving a retail released game along with their PlayStation 3 system. However, there is no word as of yet as to what software will come pre-installed on the HDD. The full retail package will include a PlayStation 3 system, a Wireless DUALSHOCK 3 Controller, an AC Power Cord (or Euro-AV cable, where applicable), an AV cable and a USB Cable.
With the heavily reduced RRP of £249.99 – a drop of £50 from the RRP of the latest 80GB PLAYSTATION 3 model – it’s not surprising that SCEE has chosen not to include an equivalent retail release within the bundle to that of Japan’s Gundam Senki, though with a major selling point of the system throughout Europe being it’s Blu-ray movie playback capabilities, the lack of an included HDMI cable is somewhat disappointing. Electronic Theatre with keep you updated with all the latest details on the new PlayStation 3 system.
