Xbox 360 Intro Blip

Announced at Microsoft’s Pre-E3 Press Conference, Project NATAL is quickly becoming one of the most anticipated releases on the Xbox 360. With Ricochet and the Dashboard browsing having already been unveiled, along with Peter Molyneux’s Milo, the Xbox 360 add-on appears to offer brand new gaming concepts that will change the way we play.

But so did Wii at this point. And now, it’s become quite apparent that the target audience for Nintendo’s incredibly successful system is not necessarily those who applauded it upon its arrival. For every gamer eagerly awaiting Project NATAL, there’s another sceptical about the prospect of the system offering the type of game they’d actually like to play.

However, Blend Games are reporting that this may not be the case, with Project NATAL director, Alex Kipman, commenting to Eurogamer that the long-time Electronic Theatre Imagegamer audience will be satisfied too.

"We'll have games that are specifically designed to work only with NATAL - not just arcadey games, but real, hardcore, triple-A titles," Kipman stated. "Then you'll have some games that are essentially a hybrid - games that work both with the controller and with NATAL. Why is that interesting? Think about a First-Person Shooter where I'm using the controller but I'm doing facial tracking by just moving around and looking round corners."

Kipman also stated that some multi-player games will allow individual players to choose whether they use a controller or Project NATAL, suggesting it may act as a bridge between hardcore and casual gamers. "I could be having my Halo experience with the controller and the friend next to me, who's not a hardcore gamer, could be throwing grenades or driving the Warthog or doing any number of things with Natal."

However, Electronic Theatre would suggest that this is highly unlikely in reality, with the embarrassment factor likely to take precedent when some decide to stick with controllers. Though the revelation that the Halo franchise may well be considered for use with Project NATAL will undoubtedly set the forums alight.

Electronic Theatre will bring you more on Project NATAL soon.
